We'd like to argue that sangria is the perfect party drink. It's quick and easy to whip up, is ideal for prepping beforehand so the flavors meld and is budget-friendly too (no need to opt for the fanciest bottle of wine, go for something inexpensive but still tasty!). Not to mention this Spanish staple is refreshing and delicious. Feel free to substitute other fruit, such as diced apple, strawberries, sliced peaches or whatever you have on hand—this recipe is super versatile!
Ingredients
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 bottle (750 mL) of inexpensive dry red wine (such as burgundy or rioja)
- 1 orange, cut into thin rounds
- 1 lemon, cut into thin rounds
- 1 cup seedless red, purple or black grapes (optional)
Directions
- Mix together juice and sugar in a standard 60-ounce pitcher until sugar dissolves.
- Stir in remaining ingredients and refrigerate for at least one hour or up to 24 hours in advance.
- Serve over ice.
Tip
Freeze the grapes at least an hour in advance of serving, then use them in lieu of ice cubes. Other great frozen fruit options: strawberry (whole or sliced), orange slices, blueberries or peach slices.
