Activity club? posted by Megan on 11/24/07 Originally, our BC was charged with reading the book and bringing a dish that was loosely related to the discussion. Since its inception, our BC has morphed into more of an "activity club". We still read and discuss the books - but there is also a supplemental (optional) activity based on the book and the season. People really enjoy the excuse to get together! Examples: in October, we read a spooky book and discussed - then went to an area "ghost story" reading in an old mansion. In December, we read and discuss a Christmas book and participate in a cookie exchange (we have lots of gals who love to bake, so all leftovers are donated to a family shelter). We will be also handing out awards for best selection and "worst" selection - prizes for best is a gift certificate to Borders and "worst" is a trashy Harlequin novel. We've also read Kite Runner - and have every intention of planning a group outing to the see the movie.1 of 2
