my mom and tia were always making tamales around Christmas time; it was a tradition, and now that they have passed, that I want to renew this tradition with my sisters and cousin. Here is the invite for this year. We will have a Tamale making party and my sister is making embroidering our names on aprons. We will have a 'novice', 'intermediate', and 'advanced' merit patch on our aprons depending on our expertise.

From the traditional red chile pork tamales to unique gourmet tamales made with organic masa and seasonal ingredients, let your imagination drive your tamales wild!
Please join us in celebrating the rich tradition of our Mama and Tia as we strive to make delicious tamales as our mama before us. Whether the tamales are dry or bland or deliciosos and picosos, we will try our best to make a maranada (I mean tamalada) to remember.
WHAT TO BRING:
--your favorite masa 'spreader'
--your favorite beverage of choice
--2 packages of ojas (cleaned already PLEASE!)
--some juicy gossip and/or
--your favorite mama or tia story.
--if you want to make any hippie or wierdo tamales, bring the ingredients with you already prepared; I won't have that in my kitchen.
ELEANOR WILL PROVIDE:
PORK & FRIJOLES for pork tamales and borracho tamales, and 15 lbs of masa. As host, I will have this ready at 2pm for spreading! BE ON TIME!
MERIT BADGES:
Nana will be making merit badges. For the first time this year, we will be earning one for participation. She will be also embroidering our names on aprons for us. Thank you Nana!
MERIT BADGE RULES:
Since this is at my house this year I make the rules. Any refinements to stated rules may be entertained at the Tamalada.
1. Only one merit badge may be earned per each year of attendance.
2. NOVICE: All participants under 50 years of age will be considered for the NOVICE badge unless their mother can vouch for their expertise in the art of Tamale Making and said expertise is acceptable to all participants. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their daughters if any for nomination as a NOVICE. Novice inductees must show active participation in the event not just sit and drink and criticize the elders.
3. INTERMEDIATE: all participants over age of 50 will be considered for INTERMEDIATE merit badge provided one or more participants can vouch for said participant and remember them at the table ever spreading masa.
4. ADVANCED: Tweety is eligible this year! Yeah! She has met the requirements by single handedly making over 20 dozen each year all by herself for the past 2 years with no help. Provided the majority of participants are agreeable, she will get her ADVANCED badge this year. Participants will accept nominations for any others who have met the requirements this year.
