Prince For A Day! posted by Elizabeth on 7/17/08
As we were looking for party ideas everything had "princess party" and cartoon characters... yuck! I wanted something "elegant yet functional" for my sons first birthday since it was the only time all year that my family really got together and most of them saw him for the first time! And we know it would have to be a dinner party to accommodate our families schedules.
We bought him a little suit from Polo and some penny loafers and topped it all off with a burger king crown spray painted silver and jeweled with scrapbook embellishments. And we gave him the silver "dumbbell" rattle he got when he was born for a secptor. The invitation stated it would be a formal affair and "anything frilly or fancy" was preferred.
I bought some cheap navy blue fabric and tassels and made his highchair into a throne. For decorations we used blue, cream, and silver balloons/string and fancy plastic wedding candelabras found at the Dollar Store.
For Mailed invitations we cut out poster board crowns and on the front wrote "Prince Daniel is turning 1!" And on the backs had "Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Your presence is requested at a Royal Gala in honor of Prince Daniel Stewart, It will be held at the Sellers castle and commence at six o'clock. Please RSVP to the King & Queen" The evites we used said pretty much the same thing, and we used the "unicorn/crown" main image on the blue waves background. we used the formal RSVP setting and everyone loved them too! I liked it because I didn't have to keep up with the guest list every time I wanted to get a count I only had to log on!!
For dinner we served a feast fit for a king (or a prince) of Chicken Breasts with Spinach, Mac & Cheese (the princes favorite food), chocolate dipped strawberries, a Windsor Salad, Jello shaped crowns, stars, and diamonds, chocolate coins, sparkling apple juice (pretend champagne), grape juice (instead of wine) & the birthday cake.
After lots of digging though Google I found a cute crown cake mold in a princess party section. I bought it and decorated with blue rather than pink fondant and candy jewels.
During the party I had all the guests sign a framed mat that i will put a picture of the prince on his throne in.
We also took pictures of all the guests bowing to the prince, kissing his hand, dancing, ect.... to make a scrap book with later.
